Matthew MacDonald (Pristine) is a 17yr old producer, songwriter and sound engineer from Morpeth. He is currently studying 'Level 3 Music Production' at Newcastle College, achieving a Distinction* for his first year.
Some of his achievements include: Working as a Sound and Lighting engineer for the whole of the 'Into The Fields Festival 2025' and the whole of the 'Party In The Park Festival 2025', He has worked as a sound engineer for bands such as 'Critch' and 'Dog Days' and also achieving second place in the 'Newcastle College Songwriting Competition'.
He has been writing and self-producing music for little under 2 years now using software such as Logic, Ableton and Fl Studio. He is also a talented musician being able to play piano and guitar, composing pieces of music with his music theory knowledge.

I write, compose and produce the music for a local media student's short films.
My Compostions to Film:
For this short film 'The Outbreak' I was given 2 compositional briefs which were: 'Ambient Spooky Music' and 'Zombie Chase Scene'. I didn't see the short film or any of the scenes from it before creating the music so I based the music completely on the brief. I feel that the music I created works very well in the short film.
For this short film/advert for lipton tea I was given a compositional brief which was 'A Refreshing Upbeat Summer Song for a Lipton Tea Advert'. I made the music before I had seen the advert, in which I followed the brief which led me to the creation of the music in this advert. I think that the music perfectly matches the vibe and feel of the Lipton Advert and it works very well.

The Process
As a producer, my process starts with talking to the artist to understand their vision and what kind of sound they’re going for. After this I then create the beat or structure of the track/song and work on recording and arranging the vocals or/and instruments. Throughout this process as a whole, I stay open to feedback from the artist and make changes as needed so the artist feels involved with the whole production procces. Once everything is complete and recorded, I focus on mixing the track and adding my final touches to make sure the track sounds clean and professional before release.
